Bona Traffic HD is a 2-component water-based polyurethane topcoat engineered for high traffic intensity — the benchmark commercial floor finish for timber floors in areas where strength, fast return-to-service, and long-term appearance matter. Strong scratch, scuff, and chemical resistance with very low odour and low VOC emissions. Available in Extra Matt, Silk Matt, RAW, and Anti-Slip.

Recommended System — Bare Timber

Bona requires a primer coat before applying Traffic HD on bare timber. Primer choice depends on timber species and appearance goals:

  • Bona Prime Classic UX — natural light colouration, suitable for standard species, recommended for Traffic HD RAW
  • Bona Prime Intense — for high tannin species (e.g. Blackbutt, Tallowwood) where tannin bleed is a risk. Classic UX is not recommended on these species
  • Bona Prime White — where a whitened or limed timber appearance is the goal

Standard system: 1 coat primer + 2 coats Traffic HD. Inter-coat abrasion required between coats — see the Bona Traffic HD Technical Data Sheet for full application conditions.

RAW Variant — Extra Notes

Traffic HD RAW is designed to retain the look and feel of raw, finely sanded timber while providing a sealed, durable surface. It carries a P3 slip resistance classification (AS/NZS 4586), making it suitable for stairs and commercial areas where slip compliance is required. Bona Prime Classic UX is the recommended primer for the RAW system. Note: Traffic HD RAW cannot be maintained with Bona Freshen Up or shine-based polishes — use Bona Cleaner for ongoing maintenance.

Not Sure If Traffic HD Is Right?

For heavy residential or light-to-moderate commercial floors where a full commercial spec isn't required, Bona Wave 2K is a genuine 2K alternative at the right level of specification. For a raw timber oil look rather than a waterborne system, consider Bona Hard Wax Oil.
