Bona Traffic HD is a 2-component water-based polyurethane topcoat engineered for high traffic intensity — the benchmark commercial floor finish in the Bona range. Here's everything you need to know to specify and apply it correctly.
What Makes It Different
Traffic HD uses a 2-part polyurethane system — Part A (the finish) mixed with Part B (the hardener) before application. The hardener crosslinks the polymer chain during cure, producing a significantly harder, more chemically resistant film than a 1-component system. The result is strong scratch, scuff, and chemical resistance suited to demanding commercial environments.
It's also EMICODE EC1 certified, GREENGUARD Gold certified, and classified low VOC (<150 g/L) — making it suitable for occupied building refurbishments and projects with environmental specifications.
Variants
- Extra Matt (20°) — very low sheen, contemporary commercial and residential look, excellent at concealing surface scratches
- Silk Matt (40°) — soft sheen, the most versatile option for residential and mixed-use commercial

- Anti-Slip — for areas requiring slip compliance under wet conditions, adds texture without compromising appearance significantly
Technical Specs
- Mix ratio: Add Part B (hardener) at 8% by volume — use the Bona Mixing Bottle for accurate measurement
- Pot life: 8 hours at 20°C after mixing
- Recoat: 4 hours at 20°C, 50% RH
- Light traffic: 6 hours
- Full use: 12–24 hours under normal conditions
- Coverage: 8–10 m² per litre per coat
- System: 1 coat primer + 2 coats Traffic HD on bare timber
Primer Selection
- Prime Classic UX — standard species, recommended for RAW system
- Prime Intense — Blackbutt, Tallowwood and high-tannin species
- Prime White — whitened/limed appearance
Maintenance
Clean with Bona Cleaner. Periodic maintenance coats with Bona Freshen Up extend coating life — except on the RAW variant.
